Services

It is our aim in conjuction with the British Molecatcher's Register, to encourage the promotion and use of the ancient art of Molecatching.

We only ever use traps never chemicals or gases for a number of reasons:

Efficiency
Operator and bystander safety
Environmentally friendly (no chemicals)
and most importantly humane

Since the banning of strychnine poisoning of moles many so called mole-controllers are no longer working i.e. they haven’t the skills to undertake traditional mole catching using traps, and spade and run probe and some ‘knowledge’ and with the mole population soaring so rapidly, as a result of climate change, resulting in milder winters and better conditions for moles the need for a Traditional Molecatcher is on the increase.

Moles have long been regarded as a pest by many gardeners and farmers. Tunnelling near the surface may disturb the roots of garden plants and crops. Molehills are unsightly on lawns and are an inconvenience in fields to farm machinery.

Each mole has its own burrow system, a network of firm-walled tunnels. The tunnels are about 5cm wide, 4cm high and may be over 70 metres long; they vary in depth from just beneath the surface of the ground to about 70cm. When digging close to the surface, the moles push the displaced soil up vertical tunnels and these form the familiar molehills.

Moles breed from March to May only. The male (boar) visits the female (sow) in her burrow and leaves straight after mating, taking no part in raising the young. The female builds a special chamber about the size of a football and lines it with dry grass and leaves. An extra large molehill, or 'fortress', usually covers the nest chamber.

Although moles only have a few months of the year breeding, I am sure you are aware just by looking around as you drive past fields etc. that they are indeed a problem for gardners, stables and landscapers throughout the year.

AE Traditional Molecatcher is available throughout the year to assess and resolve your mole problems.
